Southern Indiana

Southern Indiana

When I got an email from the federal government about the job opportunity in Indiana, I quickly dismissed the idea of moving there because there was absolutely nothing in Indiana for me. Southern Indiana which covers Jeffersonville, Clarksville, and New Albany and other surrounding cities and rural towns. Louisville, Kentucky is an adjacent to Southern Indiana. The natives call the area ‘Kentuckiana’.  But I decided to give it a shot and went in for an interview over the phone using video relay service with sign language interpreter. The employer mentioned that one of my duties will involve developing web applications, my eyes beamed and decided to take the job opportunity. However, in my mind, how do I make the most out of Indiana and Louisville, Kentucky?

Boy, was I so wrong about Southern Indiana and around Indiana. There are things to do as long as you keep your options open and learn the way of life. When I first flew out here to scout for an apartment, I was surprised to see many options. They have small ski area; large farm which consist of family petting zoo, fruit picking depending on the season and type of fruit, restaurant with food directly from the farm; maple syrup festival; Louisville Slugger Museum; or Churchill Downs Museum and horse race events.

I got to drive around and sight-see the area. I really enjoyed my time before I packed up and drove out here with U-Haul and a car in tow to begin my new employment. Southern Indiana is very rural – plenty of farms and is a hunter’s paradise. I love my job and made new friends which I had a great time. Indeed, I got to meet my future wife that I never thought I would get married. I’ve always wanted to marry a Texan lady. I guess sometimes I don’t always have it my way, just like I tried to resist the idea of moving to Indiana so I can make Texas a permanent home. Things happen for a reason.

I learned that I have to get out to make the most of myself. Go to fun activities such as local festivities, make new friends, or take up a new hobby. I got into outdoor activities which led to becoming an outdoor enthusiast myself. It ain’t so bad living here. Here’s the bonus, the cost of living here is very reasonable.
